Example Understanding of cultural and historical impacts on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural identity There have been many changes to education policy in Australia over recent centuries. These changes have had a significant impact on the state of Indigenous languages in Australia. It is important that educators possess a thorough understanding of these historical changes, as they have had a significant impact on Indigenous culture and cultural identity. The following presentation demonstrates my understanding of the pivotal events and their implications.
Example Including diverse Indigenous Australian cultural perspectives
The aim of the lesson included below was to teach students about the importance of water as a resource and the ways in which it is used in everyday life. The lesson incorporated the use of Tyson Yuntaporta’s 8 Ways of Learning Pedagogy consequently creating an inclusive learning environment that all students can benefit from. The lesson includes four of Tyson Yuntaporta’s 8 Ways of Learning as it is noted that all students learn in different ways and respond individually to varied teaching approaches and strategies. It is for this reason that the lesson contains visual learning (‘Learning Maps’), group work (‘Community Links’), learning outside the standard classroom environment (‘Land Links’), class discussion (‘Story Sharing’) and the drawing of pictures (‘Symbols and Images’).
