Throughout my degree I have completed many assignments, unit overviews and lesson plans dedicated to understanding of how to teach Indigenous students.
The aim of the lesson included below was to teach students about the importance of water as a resource and the ways in which it is used in everyday life. The lesson incorporated the use of Tyson Yuntaporta’s 8 Ways of Learning Pedagogy consequently creating an inclusive learning environment that all students can benefit from. The lesson includes four of Tyson Yuntaporta’s 8 Ways of Learning as it is noted that all students learn in different ways and respond individually to varied teaching approaches and strategies. It is for this reason that the lesson contains visual learning (‘Learning Maps’), group work (‘Community Links’), learning outside the standard classroom environment (‘Land Links’), class discussion (‘Story Sharing’) and the drawing of pictures (‘Symbols and Images’).
Evidence 2 Maths - teaching a decimal unit of work Links to AITSL standards - 1.1, 1.2, 1.5, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.5, 2.6, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5, 6.3, 6.4, 7.1, 7.4 I designed this lesson during my final placement. This was the first time I have taught decimals, and understand it is not an easy topic to teach. Prior to planning the unit of work, I identified relevant learning outcomes on decimals and ensured they were addressed during the unit. I considered a variety teaching strategies and isolated those I felt would be most successful in teaching students.
