7.1 Meet professional ethics and responsibilities Understand and apply the key principles described in codes of ethics and conduct for the teaching profession
Example Code of Ethics- Teachers Board of South Australia As I have currently submitted my registration application, I have become aware of the Code of Ethics relevant to South Australia. Three key principles are included: integrity, respect and responsibility. I feel I have constantly demonstrated these principles during my teaching placements. INTEGRITY:when engaging with mentor teachers, students and parents I demonstrate professionalism at all times. I am respectful and demonstrate qualities fit for student emulation. I have demonstrated a great work ethic and have sought learning opportunities where appropriate to consequently compliment my learning journey. RESPECT: I possess the firm belief that if one wishes to be respected, he or she must demonstrate respect in all areas of their life at all times. I feel I have consistently maintained this during my teaching placements and feel proud of the professional relationships I have built with both students and mentor teachers. RESPONSIBILITY: I have consistently demonstrated responsible qualities in relation to both students and my own learning journey. I have taught well thought out and planned lessons so students receive teaching of a high standard at all times. I have acknowledged areas I wish to improve on and assigned time to working on these areas and constantly developing as an educator.
Example Ongoing Professional Development- Australian Journal of Teacher Education- Code of Ethics in Australian Education As part of ongoing professional development, I consistently read current literature to build upon my knowledge base. It is important for teaching professionals to maintain professional subscriptions and remain well informed regarding contemporary practice. This particular journal article provided me with insight in regards to the topic and provided me with an understanding of the importance of these ethics. The article can be viewed here.
