3.7 Engage parents/ carers in the educative process Describe a broad range of strategies for involving parents/carers in the educative process
Example Weekly communication with parents Communication between educators and parents is important so student progress can be monitored by all parties. During placements, I have witnessed this communication occur via email's sent to parents on Sunday's. These emails included information regarding upcoming weekly events and a thorough home work plan. My mentor teacher reported that parents felt informed and included in their child's learning. I participated in creating these emails and communicated with parents during this placement. This is a strategy I would like to adopt when working as a Primary School Teacher.
Example Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews- Reflection During my final placement, I attended interviews as an observer after school hours. This was a very informative experience. Students prepared for their interviews during the weeks leading up to them. They then presented a 'learning progress folder' to their parents which outlined what they had learnt during the previous semester. Parents were invited to ask questions to both the student and the teacher, however the presentation was student lead. Upon reflection, I feel this type of communication with parents is very effective. This is because the student is involved and able to contribute and participate in discussions. It allows both parent and student to be active participants in the learning process.
